About St. Peter’s Episcopal Church

St. Peter’s is an Episcopal Church, part of the world wide Anglican Church.  A member recently shared with friends that he was attracted to the Episcopal Church because he was allowed to ask questions.  If you have questions about God and the meaning of life, please come and join us in the search for answers in the fellowship of our Church.

St. Peter’s was organized in September, 1953, meeting in a four room house with 29 members.  Ground was broken in June, 1954 for the present Church which was dedicated on June 12,1955. Our congregation is racially and economically diverse and is welcoming to married couples, singles, young and old alike.

Worship at St. Peter’s

Welcome to all who are worshipping with us at St. Peter’s for the first time.  We hope that you will find the peace of Christ within these walls, and that you will return to worship with us.

Our primary Sunday worship at St. Peter’s is the Eucharist which means ‘thanksgiving.’ Some churches call this Holy Communion. The Bible is read and explained and prayers are offered by the faith community. Wine and bread are blessed and distributed to those who choose to receive. All baptized Christians are welcome to receive communion. If you do not wish to receive communion, but would like to receive a blessing please approach the communion rail and cross your hands over your chest. We believe  that Jesus Christ is present with us at the Eucharist, as He said He would be.

Worship Services

8:00 am  Sunday Eucharist - a service without music.

10:00 am Sunday Eucharist - includes a choir and congregational singing.

Healing Services - are held on the second Sunday of every month during both regular services. Additionally, we have a ‘healing station’ in the back of the nave (church) at every Sunday service during Holy Communion.  On Wednesday mornings there is a service of Morning Prayer that includes the laying on of hands and anointing for healing.

Nursery – is available every Sunday during the 10 am service.

Choir – opportunities are varied at St. Peter’s. There is an Adult Choir that rehearses most Sunday mornings at 9:20 am, an Adult Chime Choir, a Youth Chime Choir, both of which rehears and play periodically, and a Contemporary Music Group that rehearses and sings in church about once a month.

Coffee Hour - is held after the 10:00 service in the undercroft (the large hall downstairs under the nave).

Other worship services include:

Tuesday 5:30 pm Evening Prayer

Wednesday 9:30 am Morning Prayer and Healing

Saturday 5:30 pm Prayers for Peace

Education

Sunday School – takes place Sunday mornings during the ‘normal’ school year from 10:00 to 10:45 am, when the children join adults for communion.

Young Adults - ages eleven through senior high participate in the Journey to Adulthood program on Sundays from 10:00 to 10:45,  when they join adults for communion.

Adult Education – takes place every Sunday morning in between the two services. The Adult Bible Study class reads and studies Scripture throughout the year. Special Adult Education programs are offered at different times throughout the year.

Restrooms are located downstairs and are handicapped accessible. There is also a restroom on the main floor adjacent to the office.

There is an elevator for those who prefer not to use the stairs.  Please ask for directions and assistance.

The Duncan Chapel is located adjacent to the sanctuary (the place if the front of the church where the altar is located). It is dedicated in memory of The Rev. Richard Duncan, the first priest to the people of St. Peter’s.  It also includes a Columbarium.

Our Priest is available by appointment for Spiritual Direction, pastoral counseling and preparation for the sacraments – marriage, baptism, confirmation and reconciliation.  Please call  832-9764 to arrange an appointment.
